Statistical Characterization of High Resolution Sar Images under Different Sea State Conditions

چکیده
Accurate ship detection from radar imagery needs a proper statistical characterization of both target and sea scattering. Even if a statistical model for the target class is not available, effective discrimination between “sea” and “nonsea” classes can be achieved making use of a good model for the sea scattering distribution (i.e. anomaly detection). Hence, the retrieval of the statistical characterization of sea is a very important task for target detection over the sea surface. In this paper we analyze the statistical characterization of sea surface for high resolution SAR imagery. This topic has been poorly investigated by the scientific community, especially for data acquired by military or dual use (military and civil) radar system such as Cosmo/Skymed (C/S) satellite constellation and TELAER (TELerilevamento AERonautico) airborne system.

The monitoring of maritime areas with remote sensing is essential for security reasons and also for the conservation of environment. The synthetic aperture radar (SAR) can play an important role in this matter by considering the possibility of acquiring high-resolution images at nighttime and under cloud cover. Recently, the new approaches based on the sub-look analysis for preserving the infor...

This work investigates the use of multi-source images to classify sea-ice conditions in the South-western Kara Sea, and in doing so simulate the alternating mode which will be available from the ASAR sensor on board Envisat. The unique data set comprises SAR images obtained from both ERS-2 and Radarsat platforms over a 12 hour-period on 23 March 1997, which also provides a high temporal resolut...

The scattering properties of ocean are studied based on the measured AIRSAR data in this paper from 3 different sides, which are statistical analysis of sea clutter, the variety trend of polarimetric characters with different incidence angle and ship-sea contrast. The statistical analysis base on KS test shows that the co-pol channels can be fitted well using K distribution under the incidence ...
